January 2026

Half Turned: Finish Your Lathe Project

Instructor: Rodger Young

Time and Date: 9am - noon on Wednesdays, January 7, 14, 21, and 28

Location:  315 Wilmer Place, Edgewater

Details:  This 3-hour workshop is for members who want to complete one of their half-turned lathe projects (maybe a bowl or a spindle). Members should bring their own tools or Rodger can provide tools as needed.

Cross Cut Handsaw Sharpening Part 1

Instructor: Rodger Young

Time and Date: 9am - noon on Wednesdays, March 4, 11, 18, and 25

Location:  315 Wilmer Place, Edgewater

Details:  This class will cover the collection, restoration, use, and sharpening of vintage Cross Cut Handsaws. Space is limited to 3 students per class. Members should bring their own saws.

Handcut Dovetail Class

DetailsChris will demonstrate his method for cutting dovetails and will discuss alternative approaches as well. Attendees should bring wood from their private stock to try their newly learned dovetail skills and are encouraged bring (but not necessary) the following tools:

  • Dovetail saw

  • Marking gauge (circle cutter type is best)

  • Chisels

  • Marking knife

  • Fret saw (optional)

Class size is limited to 3 members

CNC 2D Work - Create your own workshop sign

Instructor: Candee Van Iderstine

Time and Date: 10:30am; Part 1 -  Monday May 11, Part 2 - Friday May 15

Location:  Davidsonville, MD

Details

Candee Van Iderstine will conduct a 2-part course where guild members will create a unique sign for their home woodshop using the free software, CNC 2D Work Design with Carbon Create.  Part 1, members will create their design. In Part 2, those designs are brought to life via CNC (see example below). Class size is limited to 3.  Requires a portable laptop/iPad

Veneering Techniques

DetailsChris will demonstrate his technique for veneering and review alternative methods and materials. Chris will discuss commercial veneers as well as creating shop-cut veneers. In addition, shop made plywood will be examined.

Paul Hansen taught an end grain cutting board class at MakerSpace.

​Rodger Young taught several classes on sharpening chisels and plane blades.

November 2025

Rodger Young taught several classes on how to sharpen traditional wood turning tools. The first class was held November 12th. Other classes were scheduled on Wednesday and Saturday mornings.
