Industrial Strength Wood Rack

Hey everyone! I’ve got a wood storage issue that’s a common problem among woodworkers - a system that’s more like a total disaster. So, I decided to build a proper wood storage rack, not one of those flimsy ones you see at woodworker supply centers. I mean, I usually have several hundred board feet of hardwood on hand, and I don’t want it to come crashing down anytime soon!

I found a design online that could handle the weight. But it was meant to be bolted to a wall, which didn’t work for me. So, I modified it to put the rack on wheels. Here’s why:

1. I put everything on wheels!

2. It goes in my garage with masonry walls, and I didn’t want to go through the hassle of attaching it to the wall.

So, I’ve shared the plans here if you’re interested in an industrial-weight wood rack.…

Thanks for sharing Chris! I don't consider myself a hoarder; but I also have a problem throwing out wood scraps. You just never know when you might need it. šŸ˜‰

Tree cutting planning

We are loosing a very large 70+ year old Red Oak. I am wondering what options are available to get some usable material from it. Are there services available to take the tree down and cut the slabs on site in AAC, or do I have to transport large pieces to a mill? There are several limbs that are 12" diamater or larger, is it possible to use them. I have seen trailerable bandsaws on YouTube is it possible to rent them? Any ideas are welcome.

Woodworking school/classes

A question was submitted via our Q&A/problem box at the October general meeting:

"Any recommendations for a good woodworking school or class (like Mark Adams)?"

I don't know who asked the question; but, if you have any suggestions, submit them here and I will also include them in the November newsletter.

Thank you!

I just took the woodturning class with Mark Supik. It was a great class and I learned a lot. He's going to be doing a bowl turning class the 1st of the year.
